Role Summary

The Environmental Affairs Program Manager is a subject matter expert in environmental compliance for multiple programs at Alaska Air Group (AAG) within a defined, multi-state region. As an individual contributor, this role supports the long-term strategy for developing, maintaining, and implementing environmental compliance programs and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to monitor and ensure compliance with applicable environmental laws, regulations, and site requirements. 

Key Duties

  • Develop and maintain written environmental compliance programs, procedures, and guidance for the corporate environmental manual; update content as regulations and business needs change. 
  • Make decisions on, and provide technical direction and consultation, on site-specific environmental compliance issues across the company, partnering with station leaders and business teams to identify solutions. 
  • Maintain awareness of federal, state, and local environmental requirements within assigned region(s) and translate them into practical compliance expectations for operations. 
  • Conduct environmental audits; identify gaps, document findings, and track corrective actions to closure in collaboration with station and division partners. 
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance policies, standards, and communications; ensure requirements are consistently understood and applied across divisions. 
  • Evaluate pending or proposed federal, state, and local regulations and airport policies; assess impacts to Alaska Air Group and update or develop compliance programs, implementation plans, and guidance accordingly. 
  • Design, deliver, and maintain instructor-led and computer-based environmental training; coordinate assignments and track completion in the learning management system (LMS). 
  • Adapt training content and job aids to fit operational audiences (e.g., ramp, technical operations, supervisors, and managers) and reinforce critical requirements through targeted communications. 
  • Support environmental incident and spill response preparedness by providing guidance on notifications, documentation, and follow-up actions, as needed. 
  • Maintain compliance documentation and program records; develop metrics and trend analyses to inform risk-based priorities and leadership updates. 
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and, when assigned, external agencies or airport representatives to support inspections, information requests, and issue resolution. 
  • Drive continuous improvement by conforming to an Environmental Management System and Safety Management System in identifying systemic issues, standardizing best practices, and partnering on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) across stations and divisions. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required  

  • A minimum of 7 years of direct experience with environmental compliance.  
  • A Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or a related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree. 
  • Working knowledge of environmental regulations in a minimum of three technical areas:  
    • Air quality,  
    • Stormwater,  
    • Drinking water,  
    • Hazardous materials and hazardous waste management,  
    • Tank management,  
    • Spill prevention and response,  
    • Site remediation.  
  • Experience preparing and conducting training courses on environmental programs. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills facilitating effective verbal and written communication at all levels in the organization.  
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule based on business needs. 
  • Valid passport and ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.  
  • Minimum age of 18. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. 

Preferred 

  • Airline industry experience.  
  • Knowledge of environmental auditing and trend techniques and analyses.

Salary Range

$120,400 - $180,600 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
