Role Summary

The Director, Revenue Planning provides long-term strategy and leadership to a team responsible for the systems that define and implement Alaska Air Group’s pricing and inventory decisions, for both coupon revenue (75% of the company’s total) and multiple streams of ancillary revenue. This highly-leveraged role establishes strategic goals and direction for a team of individual contributors to continually evolve and improve the capabilities of the systems and tools used within the revenue management organization. The Director, RM also closely collaborates with other senior leaders at the company and at its vendors, overseeing multi-year projects from RFP to implementation, pushing the company towards achieving its long-term revenue objectives.

Key Duties

  • Sets the long-term strategies and objectives for technology systems in Alaska Air Group’s Revenue Management portfolio. Defines the goals, milestones, and requirements for major projects in the Revenue Management space.
  • Leads team responsible for ensuring the health and performance of current Revenue Management systems and processes remains strong. Establishes the priorities for direct reports to deploy and evolve tools in multiple domains (e.g. Dynamic Pricing, Revenue Integrity, Revenue Management Systems), with the objective of producing continuous improvement in revenue production.
  • Works cross-functionally with leaders in IT Services, Enterprise Project Management, eCommerce, Finance, Accounting, Change Management, external vendors, and other stakeholders to secure and prioritize resources for major revenue driving initiatives - such as moving towards a single Revenue Management System, enabling Dynamic Pricing, or transitioning to Network Inventory Controls – ensuring that they are delivered on-time, do not disrupt guest or employee interactions with internal tools, and produce the required returns.
  • Designs and implements innovative solutions to create and adjust Alaska Air Group’s ongoing revenue forecasts and budgets. Collaborates with Commercial Analytics team to publish results at various grains in enterprise-wide reporting. Works with Data Science team and other subject matter experts to continually improve forecast accuracy.
  • Oversees testing and measurement practices withing Pricing & Revenue Management teams to ensure robust results using advanced statistical and analytical practices; collaborates with other teams in Finance, Commercial Analytics, and Data Science to optimize the measurement of various department tactics and owns the reporting of initiative valuations.
  • Prepares and presents business cases to key stakeholders and executive leadership that influence strategy, tactical objectives, and business results across the company.
  • Develops people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on fostering strategic and systems thinking, development of talent, and succession planning across teams and disciplines.
  • Shapes culture of the team through action, presence, and reinforcement of behaviors.
  • Serves as the voice of Alaska Air Group at industry forums with a strong and clear future vision and evaluates / adopts technology to enhance Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air’s competitive advantage.
  • Develops scientific thinking within the RM team to ensure coverage and succession in technology advancements and initiatives.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 8 years of experience in airline pricing, revenue management, forecasting, analytics, reporting or related area.
  • 5 years of leadership experience, with at least 2 of those years directly leading people.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, finance, economics, or related field; or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical and analytical modeling.
  • Accomplishments in conducting complex analysis and cross-divisional projects to deliver results.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Demonstrates excellent initiative, accountability, and project management skills.
  • Goal-oriented, with a bias for action and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to execute actions through effective and transparent communication and provide performance results and feedback to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to remain focused on results while prioritizing competing goals and interests.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Advanced experience with database tools (e.g., SQL, Python, Databricks).
  • Deep knowledge of airline fare filing, distribution, and demand forecasting technology & processes.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, including vendor selection.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with all levels of management cross-divisionally.

Salary Range

$167,050 - $258,950 / year

Total Target Compensation Range (incl. bonus & equity)

$218,966 - $338,436

Salary Details

The pay range and total target compensation package listed above is the expected pay offered for this position at the start of employment. Your pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, your relevant experience/level, experience level, and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don't typically hire at the top of the range.
