Role Summary

Alaska Airlines is seeking a Paralegal to join the Legal team. This individual will provide legal and administrative support to the team for the Alaska Air Group (AAG) companies. As an individual contributor, this role may be asked to focus on one or more practice areas and may be called upon to assist on matters across the division.

Key Duties

  • Provides legal and administrative support within the Legal Division’s labor and employment, litigation and regulatory areas.
  • Assists attorneys with complex litigation matters. Assists in all phases of the discovery process and trial and arbitration preparation.
  • Supports attorneys and other legal professionals in internal investigations, responding to demand letters and agency charges, general project management and other tasks as assigned.
  • Reviews and responds to subpoenas, civil investigative demands and other requests for information from government entities and third parties.
  • Supports outside counsel, hiring managers and foreign national applicants/employees with immigration matters.
  • Leverages proficiency with Lexis or Westlaw to perform research assignments of a legal or fact-finding nature.
  • Serves as the primary contact for Payroll and Human Resources with respect to writs of garnishment, continuing liens, bankruptcies, and child support orders.
  • May be called upon to assist ethics and compliance initiatives across the enterprise, including training programs and activities.
  • Coordinates coverage and support for other paralegals and legal professionals.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Paralegal

  • Required
    • 2 years of paralegal or related experience.
    • Bachelors degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
    • A paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited program or ability to obtain within twelve months of start date.
    • Resourceful and capable of working independently, prioritizing work, and demonstrates strong discernment skills in using discretion when working with confidential information.
    • Excellent written and verbal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, particularly senior leadership.
    • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to various work styles, risk and change in direction of projects and strategies in high pressure situations that require sound decision making.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint, and Outlook), as well as litigation-related programs (e-discovery, invoicing and billing, matter management).
    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Minimum age of 18.
    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

 

Sr. Paralegal

  • Required
    • 4 years of paralegal or related experience.
    • Bachelors degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
    • A paralegal certificate from an American Bar Association (ABA)-accredited program.
    • Ability to manage ambiguity and adapt to various work styles, risk and change in direction of projects and strategies in high pressure situations that require sound decision making.

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
