Role Summary

The Manager Engineering - Structures is responsible for executing the strategy for preventative aircraft maintenance procedures, reliability improvements, aircraft structural retrofit and compliance at Alaska Airlines (AS). As a people leader, the manager leads and establishes priorities for the team to drive safety, compliance, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance improvements, while delivering best-in-class operations.

Key Duties

  • Leads a team of engineers tasked with managing aircraft ATA 51, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56 and 57 by mandating specific maintenance actions, modification, and procedures.
  • Execute on strategy with a 12 month horizon.
  • Authorizes engineering controls (ECs) efficiently and maintains the highest level of safety and compliance.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance to the damage tolerance, aging aircraft, removable structural components, corrosion prevention and other programs and processes.
  • Analyzes maintenance visits, in-service and industry data, and manufacturer recommendation to justify and implement changes to aircraft configuration and maintenance programs that optimize aircraft reliability.
  • Ensures compliance with all Airworthiness directives (ADs) and Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs). Reviews Service Bulletins (SBs), Service Letters, OEM bulletins, SRMs and other commodity related maintenance information.
  • Partners with reliability, line maintenance, and base maintenance to ensure on time resolutions are incorporated.
  • Supports the Safety Management System using the policies and procedures as outlined in the Alaska Air Group SMS manual.
  • Submits service requests as needed to OEM and obtains DER approvals when needed support repair proposals and modifications.
  • Partners with stakeholders to ensure optimal decision and timely implementation and works towards solutions with an ownership cost-mentality.
  • Utilizes high level of technical expertise and practical experience to disposition highly complex technical concerns.
  • Participates and fully engages in technical conferences to ensure the most current engineering data is utilized in managing Alaska Airlines’ aircraft fleet.
  • Promotes a high-performance culture by developing people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, focusing on delegation for stretch assignments, growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
  • Drives effective diversity, equity, and inclusion practices to build a culture of belonging while actively supporting and executing the company’s DE&I initiatives, goals and commitments.
  • Interface and maintain effective relationships with division leaders, cross-functional departments, and employees in a team-oriented environment.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in aircraft engineering (e.g., airline, shop, OEM, etc.); or related area.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (aerospace, aeronautical or mechanical), or related field; or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and oversight functions for both aircraft and engine operating airworthiness certificates.
  • Excellent communication skills; verbal and written.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • Capable of performing in a fast-paced environment while simultaneously meeting assigned deadlines with self-directed decision-making confidence.

Salary Range

$146,400 - $219,600 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon employees. Alaska/Hawaiian/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
