Role Summary

The Inflight Base Manager III is responsible for overseeing daily base operations with direct accountability for flight attendant performance and the leadership development of the Inflight supervisory team at Alaska Airlines (AS). This role sets and drives strategic priorities aligned with departmental goals, with a strong emphasis on operational reliability, customer experience, and safety. As a people leader, the Base Manager fosters a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement, ensuring the base operates efficiently and in full compliance with regulatory and company standards.

Key Duties

  • Lead team and establish priorities of Building a positive and trusting relationship with Flight Attendants and AFA (Association of Flight Attendants) Representatives.
  • Maintains a highly visible presence at the base by attending to and handling flight attendant concerns.
  • Ensures on-going and timely communication with the flight attendant group.
  • Administers the labor contract.
  • Oversee base operations with a focus on employee relations, safety, and sick leave management. Aligning base objectives with broader departmental goals to enhance performance and compliance.
  • Lead Strategic Planning & Resource Allocation: Make informed decisions on base-level strategic initiatives, budget planning, and staffing schedules. Provide input to optimize flight attendant and supervisory workforce deployment.
  • Administer labor agreements and maintain expert-level knowledge of FAA regulations and flight attendant procedures to ensure full compliance and operational integrity.
  • Champion Performance & Accountability: Provide leadership in disciplinary processes and performance management. Promote a culture of proactive coaching, documentation, and accountability in partnership with the performance supervisor team.
  • Develop people through effective performance management and ongoing feedback, Growing and developing the team for capacity and growth, looking at performance across the team, and time management.
  • Collaborate Across Functions for Operational Impact: Represent Inflight at daily operational leadership meetings. Partner with cross-functional teams (e.g., Maintenance, Flight Ops, Airport Services) to assess and mitigate impacts of off-schedule operations.
  • Participate in hiring and probation reviews, conduct IOE check rides, and serve as a liaison with local station leadership. Represent the company in community and public relations efforts while executing additional leadership duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 5 years of experience in Inflight Operations, Crew Scheduling or related airline experience.
  • 2 years of leadership experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Ability to complete Alaska Airlines’ initial training/IOE, hold FAA flight attendant certificate, and remain qualified through recurrent training.
  • Professional, reliable, able to work well under pressure.
  • Ability and willingness to work a variable schedule, including being on call for a period of 24 hours.
  • Team spirited, congenial, self-reliant, self-motivated and assertive.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize and organize in a fast-paced environment, the ability to handle multiple tasks and interface with large number of people is critical.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate needs of the staff and maintain an upbeat, can-do attitude.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, professional appearance, and solid work ethic.
  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Contract labor exposure.
  • Proficiency with common computer applications used for this role, with the ability to quickly come up to speed on additional applications.
  • Must be able to obtain and keep current a U.S Passport.
  • May be required to fly as a crew member as directed.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum age of 21.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • 2 years of Flight Attendant or Inflight experience.
  • Knowledge of budget preparation, cost control and expense analysis.

Salary Range

$91,900 -- $139,000 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements
