Role Summary

The Principal Business Intelligence Analyst is the sole subject matter expert in applying highly complex analytics on large and diverse datasets to predict consumer behavior and to craft optimal business strategies over a broad portfolio of initiatives at Alaska Airlines (AS). As an individual contributor, this role defines long-term strategy for strategic projects in a fast-paced, high-exposure team and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to solve for data analysis, demand modeling and research, optimization, project management, and solution design/delivery.

Key Duties

  • As the lead subject matter expert in translating business intelligence strategy into advanced analytical experiments and models that blend data sources for creative insights into business problems and to align performance with the company’s strategic goals, detailed action plans, key performance indicators, and progress metrics.
  • Leads and owns systems and technology to produce decision support tools that enable leaders and system practitioners to take strategic action in a dynamic competitive environment.
  • Manages automated systems to perform strategic pricing and inventory activities.
  • Leverages technology to enhance department performance and productivity.
  • Manages visualizations grounded in statistical best practices that facilitate effective communication of results and key findings to internal and external customers.
  • Selects on the best methodologies to approach business problems and contributes to the continuous improvement of stakeholder processes and data life-cycle.
  • Makes decisions on new data sources and analytical tools to enhance the data-driven business process.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders and ITS on the integration and support of business systems.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and ensures timely and accurate completion of assignments.
  • Mentors and supports the development of other analysts throughout the company.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 7 years of experience in analytics or related area.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus in mathematics, economics, finance, statistics, business, computer science, or engineering, or an additional 2 years of training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of business intelligence functions, including to analytics, data mining, reporting, report conversion, data cleansing, data modeling and relational databases.
  • Advanced SQL skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with disparate data sources, data blending, and advanced database functions (e.g., database management functions).
  • Expert in visualization techniques, dashboard design, and decision support tools; experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, etc.
  • Modeling proficiency in cluster analysis and linear regression.
  • Experience with descriptive and diagnostic statistics, sampling methodology, residuals analysis / ANOVA, and hypothesis / significance testing.
  • Ability to work well with multiple, diverse teams.
  • Data-driven mindset and a proven history of continuous self-development.
  • Demonstrated project management experience.

Preferred

  • Experience using coding languages (e.g., C++, C#, VBA, Python, or R).
  • Basic optimization/simulation model development.

Salary Range

$138,500 - $207,750 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
