Role Summary

The Maintenance Safety Manager is a subject matter expert in maintenance safety practices and procedures for Alaska Air Group (AAG). As an individual contributor, develops, implements, and leads innovative safety programs and processes. This role exercises considerable judgment to make safety related decisions and ensure aircraft maintenance is performed at the highest level of safety, in compliance with AS, HA, QX and aircraft manufacturer policies and procedures.

Key Duties

  • Leads and manages investigation programs for incidents or events involving Air Group personnel or aircraft.
    • Evaluates, reviews, and makes recommendations resulting from accident investigations and trend analysis of safety information.
  • Participates in the Safety Risk Assessment (SRA) process for Alaska, and Horizon maintenance and cross-divisional workgroups.
  • Manages the Safety Hazard Reporting Program, including analysis, risk assessment and resolution of Safety Hazard Reports.
  • Manages Regionalized Safety Programs for maintenance operations.
  • Reviews and analyzes maintenance delays, cancellations, and Continuing Analysis and Surveillance (CAS) data, to identify adverse trends and make recommendations.
  • Performs Hangar, Maintenance Control, MRO and Maintenance Line Safety Audits, as assigned, and reports findings and recommendations to Safety Leadership.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of the Safety Manuals for Alaska and Horizon and completes updates, as necessary.
  • Sends out Safety Messaging to divisions, updates websites, Safety SharePoint and other communication avenues.
  • Participates in/facilitates/represents Alaska and Horizon at:
    • SMS divisional analysis group (DAG) and Safety Review Board (SRB) meetings.
    • Aircraft Ground Damage Review Board (AGDRB) Meetings
    • Employee Safety Reporting Program Event Review Committee (ERC) and industry meetings related to maintenance operations safety.
    • A4A and RAA safety committees

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 4 years of airline maintenance experience with large commercial or military aircraft.
  • A Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Mechanic Certificate with Airframe and Powerplant ratings.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Alaska Air Group’s safety standards and safe operation practices, or equivalent safety experience within the airline or transportation industry (14 CFR 1, the certificate holder’s operation specifications, and the manuals required by 121.133).
  • Demonstrated experience with Safety Management System (SMS) concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct investigations including interviewing, fact finding, and root cause analysis.
  • Effective communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel approximately 40% of the time.

Preferred

  • 2 years of experience developing policy and procedures and implementing changes within the operation.
  • 2 years of safety program experience.
  • Attended a recognized university safety degree producing program or comprehensive safety certificate program from the U.S. Government, U.S. Armed Forces, or other recognized organization.
  • Experience presenting and analyzing safety, data including trend analysis and decision-making from event and investigation reports.

Salary Range

$115,350 - $173,050 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
