Role Summary

The Associate Engineer provides world-class customer service while keeping safety and compliance the top priorities.  This individual contributor, as part of the Engineering department, focuses on establishing preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements with a team of engineers in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance at Alaska Airlines (AS).  

Key Duties

  • Under the direction of their manager, develops repairs, alterations, and maintenance specifications and provides engineering assistance to all departments within the Maintenance & Engineering (M&E) division.
  • Provide input into preventative maintenance procedures and reliability improvements in the interest of safety, cost reduction, and fleet maintenance improvements.
  • Provide engineering assistance to the Aircraft On Ground (AOG) engineering and technical services group through analysis of aircraft interiors in-service difficulties.
  • Assist team members in processes for acceptance of aircraft delivery.
  • Review service bulletins, service letters, and airworthiness directives and recommend action.
  • Develop and issue engineering controls, along with supporting documents, drawings, and manual revisions to accomplish repairs and alterations to aircraft interior systems.
  • Investigate problems and propose modifications, evaluate proposal merits, and recommend solutions.
  • Review and update project tasks, schedule, and change requests in the engineering department’s project and change management system.
  • Stay abreast of state-of-the-art and technical developments affecting aircraft interiors.
  • Become familiar with part interchangeability and configuration.
  • Become familiar with FAA part 121 and 25 regulations.
  • Develop and revise ASA engineering drawings. 

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree with a focus in aerospace or mechanical engineering or related area, or two years of engineering or related experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Ability to learn Alaska Airlines Maintenance and Project & Change Management Systems.
  • Strong analytical and complex problem-solving ability, particularly in identifying fleet issues and trends.
  • Ability to meet assigned project deadlines with self-directed decision-making confidence.
  • Excellent communication (e.g., verbal, written, and listening), presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise documentation.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with ability to multi-task and work independently with self-directed and decision-making confidence and limited guidance in fast paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

Preferred 

  • Aircraft Interiors experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, operating policies, and procedures.
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of aircraft interiors (Airbus A320 and Boeing 737NG/MAX preferred). 

Airport SIDA Badge Requirements

Important notification for employees working at an airport or maintenance hangar: Employees will be required to obtain a SIDA badge provided by the airport authority and maintain good standing in order to keep their SIDA badge. Review the SIDA Badge Requirements document for a comprehensive overview. If an employee does not qualify for a SIDA badge or has their SIDA badge pulled from them, the employee will be terminated.

Salary Range

$75,250 -- $105,350 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
