Role Summary

The Resource Planning Principal is a lead subject matter expert in ground operations resource planning at Alaska Airlines. As an individual contributor, this role defines tactical and long-term resourcing strategy for supported workgroups, including labor model development, assumption research and analysis, financial performance and productivity, and developing processes and infrastructure to further connect the full cycle of resource management (planning, administration, day-of-operations) into a synchronized, data-driven workflow. 

Key Duties

  • As the lead subject matter expert they partner with divisional leadership to develop and place labor models into production which enable operational execution while balancing cost and efficiency.
  • Influences and Develops resource budgets, forecasts and bids for supported workgroups and cultivates productive partnerships with operational leaders, finance and executives to identify and implement plans which support business goals.
  • Makes decisions on and Optimizes the use of departmental tools and systems to promote automation, create efficiencies and improve the company’s planning, resource administration, and day-of-operations execution.
  • Influences and supports the development of strategic departmental roadmaps; partners with leadership of operational divisions to gain alignment and ensure the practice of resource planning is effectively supporting evolving business needs.
  • Collaborates with industrial engineers, business analysts and operational leaders to conduct research in the field (time and motion studies, observation, process mapping, Kaizen) to produce accurate labor model assumptions and support continuous improvement.
  • Defines long-term strategy for and Partners with FP&A to support budget, forecast, ad hoc analysis, reporting and construction/delivery of presentations.
  • Leads and Develops and/or partners with Strategy, Analytics and Transformation team to develop tools, processes and mechanisms for continuous monitoring and reporting on performance and effectiveness of the resource plan; supports operational leadership in interpretation and adoption of reporting/dashboards.
  • Collaborates and Mentors and develops other departmental staff in resource planning technology and best practices. 

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required 

  • 7+ years of experience in resource planning or airline operations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, industrial engineering, finance, economics or related field, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree. 
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly with Excel (and large datasets) and PowerPoint.
  • Strategic thinker with an understanding of how detailed data and analysis can influence and guide short and long-term goals.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills, with an ability to explain complex concepts and foster positive relationships with staff at varying organizational levels, including executive management.
  • A self-starter with a bias for action, organized and able to work efficiently and accurately under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Optimistic with a positive presence, open minded, curious, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.  

Preferred 

  • Strong preference for extensive experience with the INFORM GroundStar suite or equivalent airline ground operations resource planning software.
  • 10+ years of direct airline ground operations resource planning experience.
  • Master’s degree in business administration, industrial engineering, finance, economics or related field.
  • Lean Six-Sigma Green or Black Belt.
  • Working knowledge of Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines AMFA, COPS and/or IAM contracts.
  • Experience with Tableau or similar data visualization tool, plus working knowledge of SQL or other language to query and manipulate large data sets.
  • Background in construction of business cases and/or project management supporting implementation of new technology.
  • Extensive knowledge of airline and ground handling industries and the associated competitive landscape.
  • Ability to learn complex processes and systems, recommend appropriate updates, and facilitate effective change management.

Salary Range

$120,400 - $180,600 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.

 

Note: We don’t typically hire at the top of the range.
